Lighting upgrades being done at Van Buren parking deck
Work to upgrade the lighting at Naperville’s downtown Van Buren parking deck began this week and is expected to last through the end of December.
City contractor Rag’s Electric is replacing the ceiling, stair and vestibule lighting with LED fixtures throughout the 43 W. Van Buren Ave. deck, a city news release said.
The new lights use less energy than the current fixtures and will provide bright, uniform illumination to improve safety.
Emergency call boxes also will be upgraded, city officials said.
Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays on one level of the deck at a time, and temporary parking restrictions will be in effect. Parking spaces will reopen as work progresses, and detours and closures will be posted.

Naper Settlement’s tree lighting ceremony set for Dec. 4
Naper Settlement will hold its tree lighting ceremony from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Birck Family Innovation Gateway, 523 S. Webster St.
The free, public event will include visits with Santa and complimentary hot cocoa and cookies. Children can also write letters to Santa while in attendance.
Many of the settlement’s buildings and the evergreen trees near the main entrance will be lit up for the holidays, a news release said.

Patrick Cermak named to WTTW/WFMT trustees board
Naperville native Patrick E. Cermak, president and CEO of Wight & Co., has been named to the board of trustees of Window to the World Communications, the parent organization of WTTW-TV public media and WFMT-FM classical radio.
He is one of two new members of the board selected for a three-year term, a news release said.
Cermak joined Wight & Co., a design, engineering and construction firm, in 2001, the news release said. He has been awarded the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce PAC Advocacy Champion Award and the Signum Fidei Award from Lewis University in Romeoville.
Cermak also was the recipient of the Leadership in the Private Sector award at the March of Dimes’ 2024 Construction and Transportation Awards, which recognize firms and individuals that champion maternal and infant health.
Also appointed to the board was Gwen Cohen, founder of the consulting company BeeAttitudes.
St. Jude arm relic on display Friday at Naperville church
A relic of St. Jude will be on display for a veneration event to be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St.
The Naperville church also will hold confessions from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. prior to a special mass to be held at 7 p.m., church leaders said.
St. Jude is one of the church’s most beloved saints to whom believers turn when they are desperate or things seem lost or unbearable. St. Jude is revered by Catholics and is known as the Apostle of the Impossible.
The relic of St. Jude has been on pilgrimage throughout the United States. Last year was the first time the relic left Italy, a news release said.
According to information about the relic, St. Jude’s body was buried in the place of his martyrdom but was transferred to Rome during the time of Emperor Constantine. Several centuries ago, his arm was removed and placed in a wooden reliquary carved in the shape of an arm imparting a blessing, the release said.
