Naperville Art League to hold annual public art competition
The Naperville Art League is hosting its annual public art competition, which this year will have the theme “Inside Outside.”
Artists from Naperville and the surrounding areas have until 4 p.m. April 8 to submit original works. Pieces can be any media or mixed-media and two- or three-dimensional, an Art League news release said.
The entry fee is $20 for Naperville Art League members and $35 for nonmembers.
All entries will be on display from April 15 to May 16, and viewing open to the public at the Naperville Fine Art Center and Gallery, 508 N. Center St., during regular hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
A reception and awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, April 25. Cash prizes will be awarded in two age categories: high school/college and adult. Best of Show award winners will receive $300 and Awards of Excellence recipients will receive $100.

Feed My Starving Children plans to pack 800,000 meals
Volunteers are needed to pack more than 800,000 meals in two days at Benedictine University in Lisle.
The Feed the Need! MobilePack event will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9. Volunteers will help prepare meals with rice, soy, dried vegetables, vitamins and minerals to help feed children around the world, a news release said.
The annual MobilePack event is organized by a coalition of DuPage, Will and Kane county churches, civic organizations, businesses, schools, community groups and others.
Volunteer shifts are two hours long, and children as young as 5 can help, the release said. Shifts are available for noon to 2 p.m., 3 to 5 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.
Since 2011, Feed the Need volunteers across the country have packed meals, and their efforts will surpass 10 million meals this year, the release said.

College of DuPage hosting free film screenings, discussions
The College of DuPage Film Studies program will host a series of free film screenings followed by post-film question-and-answer sessions led by faculty members.
All screenings will be presented in the McAninch Arts Center, Room 1437, on the college’s Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
Professor Gianni Barchiesi will lead the discussion on the 1987 movie, “Robocop,” at 4 p.m. March 13.
The 1975 movie, “Death Race 2000,” will be shown at 4 p.m. March 18, presented by professor Brian Brems.
Adjunct faculty member Dylan Simons will present the 1955 Frank Sinatra movie, “The Man with the Golden Arm,” at 6 p.m. April 9.
Brems and professor Tim Henningsen will lead the discussion on the 2016 movie, “Arrival,” at 4 p.m. April 17.
