Naperville Park Board honors Eagle Scouts for projects
Five Eagle Scouts were recently honored by the Naperville Park Board for completing projects that helped beautify and improve Naperville parks.
Brandon Kenny was recognized for building and installing a bench at Heritage Woods, park district officials said in a news release. Gabe Vischer built a new flower bed that encompasses the park identification sign at Wildflower Park.
Lillian Jaglin filled more than 30 lawn bags with invasive plants such as garlic mustard and vines, the district said. Natalie Dawes built and installed five duck boxes at May Watts, Hobson West Ponds and Sportsman’s Park.
Libby High, who could not attend the meeting but was recognized, designed a communication board for Wolf’s Crossing Community Park, the district said.
Will County forest preserves closed on Christmas Day
All Forest Preserve District of Will County forest preserves and dog parks will be closed on Dec. 25, which is the only day of the year the preserves are closed, district officials said.
District visitor centers will be closed from noon Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Christmas Day, reopening on Thursday, Dec. 26. They include: Four Rivers Environmental Education Center in Channahon, Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville, Plum Creek Nature Center in Crete Township and Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet.
The Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook is undergoing renovations and will reopen in 2025. The Monee Reservoir Visitor Center in Monee is closed for the winter and will reopen March 1.
DuPage Forest Preserve District earns environmental award
Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s fleet has been given top environmental honors by the NAFA Fleet Management Association.
The district’s fleet maintenance program was named the No. 1 Green Garage for 2024, which tops the list of the 10 most progressive and environmentally-committed fleet maintenance garages in the country, district officials said.
The Green Garage Contest highlights the best practices in sustainable garage operations, the district said.
Rhea Courtney Bozic, an environmental scientist, green fleet consultant and sustainable transportation expert, was the contest’s chief judge, the NAFA Fleet Management Association’s website said.
The association is a global organization of professionals who manage a wide variety of vehicle fleets, such as commercial, public safety, utility, military and off-road equipment.
According to the association, DuPage County was the only Illinois organization in the top 10 although the University of Illinois did receive an honorable mention.
