Winners announced in park district’s annual Turkey Shoot
Naperville Park District’s annual Turkey Shoot, which closed out the golf season Nov. 23 and 24 with a nine-hole scramble, featured 175 golfers playing in 35 teams of five.
The winning team at Springbrook Golf Course was made up of Naperville residents Mike Wozny, Mike Wozny Jr., Joe Wozny, Kevin Yeazell and Jason Parker, who scored six under par for 30 total strokes, a park district official said.
Members of the winning team at Naperbrook was comprised of Naperville residents Jason Bainter, Bob Prinz, Rod Stecklein, Dave Gregg and Dean C., who scored seven under par for 29 total strokes.
The participants of the Turkey Shoot received a turkey as part of the tournament’s tradition, but players are also given the option to donate the value of their turkey to Operation Support Our Troops. This year 89 participants donated the value of their turkeys, which resulted in a donation of nearly $1,100, the park district said.
A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter plans cookie walk fundraiser
A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter’s annual Holiday Cookie Walk to raise funds for the nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.
Community members can stop by the shelter, 420 Industrial Dr., to buy assorted homemade baked goods and have their pet’s picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Proceeds from the annual cookie walk and bake sale support the shelter’s mission and raises funds for homeless pets in its care. The shelter has place more than 30,000 pets in homes since 1989 and thousands of animals from other rescue organizations benefit from its training facility and veterinary clinic, the nonprofit said.

Santa’s mailbox ready for letters in downtown Naperville
Santa’s Mailbox in downtown Naperville is ready to receive correspondence to be sent to the North Pole.
The painted box, provided by the Downtown Naperville Alliance, is set up near Main Street and Jefferson Avenue, an announcement said. Letters can be dropped off through Dec. 20.
Anyone who includes a return address with their letter will receive a personalized note back, the announcement said.

Pennies for Pies initiative raises enough to buy 130 pies
More than $543 was donated to Naperville Park District’s annual Pennies for Pies campaign.
Money raised was used to buy 130 pumpkin pies for Loaves & Fishes Community Services to include in their holiday meals for community members in need, the park district said in a news release.
As is the tradition every year, the park district asks residents to donate spare change at five park district facilities and to make online monetary contributions at the park district’s website in order to fund the pie purchases.
Pennies for Pies dates back to 2006, when it was started by the park district’s preschool classes in 2006. It has since become an annual event.
