Naperville police will handle the investigation into the death of a 27-year-old man who was pulled from Naperville’s Centennial Beach early Thursday evening, according to a statement from the Naperville Park District.
While police initially referred questions about the incident to the district’s executive director Thursday night, a decision has been made that the city police department will take over the case with the district’s cooperation, the announcement said.
Naperville police have not released any additional information.
Centennial Beach was closed Friday, and a decision on whether it will reopen over the weekend was to be made later in the day.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was removed from the water about 6 p.m. Thursday and taken to Endeavor Health Edward Hospital in Naperville, where he was pronounced dead.
The DuPage County coroner’s office declined to say if an autopsy would be conducted Friday.
