New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Malikharjun Kharge on Thursday reacted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest. The AAP chief was arrested after over two hours of questioning by an ED team in connection to the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case.

The arrest came hours after the Delhi High Court denied him protection against “coercive action” by the agency, which has issued multiple summons to him.

Rahul Gandhi in a social media post referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘sacred dictator.’ He claimed that the BJP-led Centre captured all the central institutions including the media, broke up the parties, and extorted money from companies.

“A scared dictator wants to create a dead democracy. While capturing all the institutions including the media, breaking up the parties, extorting money from companies, freezing the account of the main opposition party was not enough for the ‘devilish power’, now the arrest of the elected Chief Ministers has also become a common thing. INDIA will give a befitting reply to this,” the Congress leader posted on X.

Congress President Kharge claimed that the “arrogant” BJP is trying to weaken the opposition by all illegal means before the Lok Sabha elections.

Taking to X, Kharge wrote, “The arrogant BJP, which makes false claims of victory every day, is trying to weaken the opposition by all means and illegal means before the elections. If there was real confidence of victory then the accounts of the main opposition party – Congress Party would not have been frozen by misusing the constitutional institutions.”
