Oswego Village Board members recently approved a resolution authorizing a 10-year repayment agreement between Oswego-based School District 308 and the village of Oswego for $240,384 in underbilled water and sewer charges after the installation of new meters at the district’s two high schools.
New water meters were installed across the village starting in 2019 including at Oswego High School and Oswego East High School, village officials said.
After the installation of the new 6-inch meters, the two schools were only billed for one-tenth of the actual water used, Oswego Finance Director Andrea Lamberg said in a report to trustees.
“In early March 2024, while conducting an analysis, staff identified the issue,” Lamberg said.
Village staff members reached out to the district to review the billing history and discuss a repayment agreement, Oswego officials said. Both sides agreed to a repayment arrangement to run from Sept. 15, 2025, to July 15, 2034, Lamberg said.
“Due to the large amount of unbilled water, the school district requested an extended repayment agreement. Village staff worked with school district staff to create a repayment agreement that was satisfactory to both parties,” Lamberg said.
The total due at Oswego High School is $88,911 and at Oswego East High School the outstanding amount is $151,473, according to the repayment plan. The district will make payments every two months for $1,646.00 and $2,805 respectively for the two schools during the length of the repayment agreement.
The school district board approved the agreement in August, village officials said.
