Forecasters expect on-and-off storms Saturday, while heat and humidity may build again in the area going into next week.

Periodic thunderstorms will pass through the area Saturday morning, though more severe storms with potentially damaging winds will likely develop between 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The morning storms will likely move along and south of I-88, and the afternoon ones are favored south of I-80.

Throughout the day, torrential downpours and flash flooding are possible. A National Weather Service flood watch remains in effect until 7 p.m.

Though forecasters predict lower chances of thunderstorms on Sunday, heat and humidity will likely build toward Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 86 and the heat index reaching 95. Heat indices after the weekend could exceed 100, according to the weather service.

More storms could hit on Tuesday and Wednesday.
