A man, 70, was beaten last week during an attempted robbery on Aurora’s West Side, according to the Aurora Police Department.
On Aug. 28 at around 11:13 p.m., Aurora police responded to the 2000 block of West Galena Boulevard in Aurora for a report of an attempted robbery and aggravated battery, according to a news release from the police department on Wednesday.
Officers found a man, 70, with significant facial injuries, including swelling to both eyes and a facial laceration, the news release said. The man told officers he had been approached by a teen who demanded money, then struck him multiple times in the face and head and continued to assault him after knocking him to the ground, according to the release.
The man ultimately broke free, called the police and provided officers with a description of the suspect and his location, per the release. Officers located the suspect, who ran from the police but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit, according to the release.
Aurora Fire Department paramedics took the injured man to Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, the release stated, and he was found to have a broken orbital bone, one of the bones that makes up the eye socket.
The suspect, a 17-year-old boy from Aurora, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery, aggravated battery to a person over the age of 60, attempted robbery and resisting a peace officer, the release said. He was taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles, and remains there as of Thursday, according to a police department spokesperson.
The incident is still being investigated, the police department said. The department is asking anyone with information to call the police department’s Investigations Division at 630-256-5500.
