Police: Man killed by train in downtown Chesterton Friday

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train at the Norfolk Southern grade crossing on South Calumet Road in downtown Chesterton Friday evening, per a post on the town of Chesterton’s Facebook page.

The incident occurred at 7:02 p.m., according to the Chesterton Police Department.

Assistant Police Chief Cisco Rodriquez described the victim as an adult male but could provide no further information, pending notification of the family and the results of the ongoing investigation. The man’s name has not yet been released.
