When Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan took office on March 16, 2022, he made a promise to the people of Punjab a promise to restore the state’s former glory and build a ‘Rangla Punjab’ once again. True to his word, the Maan Government has been working tirelessly to create employment opportunities, boost industry, and strengthen the state’s economy. One of the most remarkable transformations has taken place in Punjab’s dairy sector, which had long been neglected but is now experiencing a historic revival.

Reviving a Legacy: The Resurgence of Milkfed

Punjab’s economy has always had strong agricultural roots, with dairy farming playing a crucial role. However, years of negligence had pushed institutions like Milkfed, which operated under the Verka brand, to the brink of collapse. Thousands of jobs were lost, and farmers suffered due to dwindling revenues and outdated infrastructure.

Recognizing the dire need for intervention, the Maan Government took decisive action to revamp Milkfed. Within two years, Verka’s revenue surged from ₹4,500 crore to ₹6,200 crore a testament to the government’s commitment to strengthening the dairy industry. This not only ensured the revival of an iconic institution but also directly benefited thousands of dairy farmers across Punjab.

Empowering Farmers, Increasing Incomes

At the heart of the government’s initiative lies the upliftment of Punjab’s hardworking farmers. Understanding their struggles, Chief Minister Maan introduced policies aimed at improving the financial stability of dairy farmers. The government increased the procurement price of milk, allowing farmers to earn higher profits and reinvest in their businesses.

By ensuring fair pricing and transparent procurement systems, Punjab’s dairy farmers are now witnessing tangible economic growth. For many, dairy farming has transformed from a struggling occupation into a sustainable and profitable livelihood.

Strengthening Dairy Infrastructure

Beyond financial reforms, the Maan Government has made significant investments in modernizing dairy infrastructure. Several large-scale milk processing plants and dairy production units have been upgraded, ensuring that Punjab’s dairy industry remains competitive in national and global markets.

The following key projects are reshaping the dairy sector in Punjab:

  • Mohali Milk Processing Unit – ₹325 crore investment
  • Amritsar Milk Processing Unit – ₹135 crore investment
  • Ludhiana Milk Processing Unit – ₹105 crore investment
  • Jalandhar Dairy Processing Plant – ₹84 crore investment
  • Bangar’s Bypass Protein Plant – ₹10.15 crore investment

These strategic developments are boosting Punjab’s capacity to meet the growing demand for dairy products, ensuring that Punjab remains a leader in the dairy industry.

A Prosperous Future for Punjab’s Dairy Sector

With the Maan Government’s proactive measures, Punjab’s dairy industry is on the path to remarkable growth. From securing farmers’ livelihoods to modernizing processing units, every step is geared toward making Punjab self-sufficient and economically robust.

As the government continues to introduce farmer-friendly policies and expand dairy-related initiatives, one thing is certain Punjab’s dairy revolution is just beginning. With the unwavering support of its people, Punjab is once again emerging as the land of prosperity, progress, and opportunity.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan and his government remain committed to ensuring that Punjab’s dairy sector flourishes, bringing economic stability and a brighter future for millions. This is not just about milk it’s about Punjab’s resurgence, about keeping promises, and about making ‘Rangla Punjab’ a reality
