‘Rahul Seems Indifferent To Human Lives’: Surendran On Woman’s Death In Wayanad Jumbo Attack

A tribal woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in a forest area that spans the border of Wayanad and Malappuram districts. The woman’s husband sustained severe injuries in the same attack. The couple was reportedly attacked while gathering honey in the forest, police said in Wayanad on Thursday.

The attack came to light after tribals in the region alerted the police and forest officials about the incident at Parappanpara forest on Thursday.

“We’re waiting for more information because the police and forest officials have gone to the forest where the incident happened to move them to the hospital,” a police officer said, as per a report on PTI.

However, the BJP has lambasted Wayanad MP and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, along with Kerala’s Left government, for their alleged failure to tackle the rising incidents of human-wildlife conflict in the hill district. K Surendran, the BJP state president and the party’s candidate in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, accused both the state government and the incumbent MP of neglecting the issue.

Condoling the woman’s death, Surendran said, “Another tragic loss due to a wild elephant attack in Wayanad. My deepest condolences to Mini and her family. The human-wildlife conflict in Kerala, particularly in Wayanad, is a recurring nightmare. The State Govt led by @pinarayivijayan and the MP @RahulGandhi have failed to address this crisis. Is Rahul only interested in votes?”

“The wild elephants came to the town more often than Rahul Gandhi came to Wayanad. He seems indifferent to human lives, enjoying his outstation visits without truly engaging with the plight of the people. It’s time for Rahul Gandhi to answer for his negligence,” he said.
