India’s Got Latent Row: Maharashtra Cyber Cell on Thursday sent a second summon to comedian Samay Raina to appear before the investigating officer on 17 February in connection with a probe on India’s Got Latent controversy over YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s crass remarks.
On Wednesday, Raina’s lawyer informed the Cyber Cell that the roast show host is in America and will return on 17 March.
As a format of the roast show, Allahbadia appeared as a guest along with Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Makhija. In an episode which has now been taken down from YouTube, Allahbadia asked a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?”
As videos from the episode circulated on social media, separate FIRs were filed in Mumbai and Assam and 30 to 40 individuals associated with the show were charged. Complaints have also been filed against host Raina and Makhija.
Raina announced on Wednesday that he has taken down all India’s Got Latent videos, stating that the controversy has become “too much for me to handle.”
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all Indias Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
