New Delhi: Actor Satish Kaushik died on Thursday after suffering from a heart attack at the age of 66. Anupam Kher, an actor and close friend of his, tweeted the news and confirmed it. In order to conduct a postmortem, the actor’s body was moved from Fortis in New Delhi to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

In Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’, Kaushik will make his final appearance on the big screen. He portrayed the late defence minister Jagjivan Ram in the historical drama, which was set during Indira Gandhi’s time as prime minister in 1975–76 and focused on the turbulent Emergency era of India.

The announcement was made by Kangana Ranaut, the movie’s producer and director, with the caption,“Last but not the least… Presenting the powerhouse of talent Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram in Emergency, popularly known as Babuji, he was one of the most revered politicians in the Indian political history.”

Kaushik had also taken to Instagram and wrote, “Honoured to essay the role of Jagjivan Ram also known as Babuji, the most compassionate and the crusader of social justice in Kangana Ranaut directorial Emergency.”

On Tuesday, March 7, Satish Kaushik recently went to Javed Akhtar’s Holi party in Mumbai. He also posted a number of photos on his official Instagram account, smiling broadly as he posed beside Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal, Javed Akhtar, and Mahima Choudhary.

A graduate of both the NSD and the FTII, Kaushik was born in Haryana and began his cinematic career in the early 1980s. He was the director of ‘Roop Ki Rani, Choron Ka Raja’, starring Sridevi, and later ‘Prem’. But, he had major success with ‘Hum Aapke Dil Me Rehte Hain’ and ‘Tere Sang’, among many more films.
