Start of Thursday’s Chicago White Sox-Cleveland Guardians game delayed because of rain

The start of Thursday’s series opener between the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians at Rate Field is delayed because of rain.

“We will provide more information as it becomes available,” the Sox wrote on social media before the scheduled 6:40 p.m. first pitch.

Jonathan Cannon is the scheduled starter for the Sox. He allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings during his last start Saturday against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

“It was three ups the first time (returning from a lower back strain), six ups the second time, wasn’t able to get through that sixth inning — so not necessarily looking for him to pitch a complete game, but to continue to pitch strong deeper into the game I think is a fair expectation for him,” manager Will Venable said.

The Guardians are in Chicago for the first time this season with a four-game series on tap through Sunday. The Sox were swept a three-game series April 8-10 in Cleveland.
