A woman from Sugar Grove who was hit and killed by an unknown vehicle on Oct. 12 has been identified by the Kane County Corner’s Office as Elaine Zielke, 69, officials announced on Friday.

The coroner’s office was called on Oct. 13 at around 7:45 a.m. about Zielke, who had died at Ascension Mercy medical center in Aurora, according to a coroner’s office news release. Officials said in the release that the preliminary cause of death was determined to be multiple injuries from a vehicle to a pedestrian.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office is cooperating with the Sugar Grove Police Department in its investigation of Zielke’s death, the coroner’s release stated.

The fatal hit and run happened in the area of the 1900 block of Fay’s Lane at around 10:30 p.m. Oct. 12, according to a separate Oct. 13 news release from the Sugar Grove Police Department.

Police arriving on the scene found Zielke, who lived in the Dugan Woods subdivision, had been struck by an unknown vehicle and was lying in the street, the police department’s release stated. She was given medical assistance at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials said in the release.

The unknown vehicle and driver who hit Zielke fled the scene of the crash, according to the release.

Officials said that both directions of Fay’s Lane were closed for around three hours during the on-scene investigation. The Sugar Grove police asked the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team to help with the investigation, the release stated.
