The latest installment of Triton College’s TEDx-style talk – led by the college’s own staff – will feature bestselling author Loretta Nyhan.
Nyhan, who will talk about her published work and journey as a writer, will speak at the Feb. 26 “TritonTalk” at the school located in River Grove. She has authored several books on topics mostly focusing on women finding their true selves, according to a Triton College news release announcing the event.
TritonTalk is a series of TEDx-style talks about topics and trends reflective of the college’s multinational community, the release states.
“I tell stories and I help other people tell their stories,” Nyhan, who works as a coordinator in the community college’s Career Services Department, stated in the release.
She is expected to provide autographed copies of “Digging In,” one of her latest books, officials said.
“We are in for a treat,” officials stated in event advertisements.
Nyhan’s website describes “Digging In” as a story about Paige Moresco, who found her true
Love back in eighth grade and lost him two years ago.
“Since his death, she’s been sleepwalking through life, barely holding on for the sake of her teenage son. Her house is a wreck, the grass is overrun with weeds, and she’s at risk of losing her job. As Paige stares at her neglected lawn, she knows she’s hit rock bottom,” the website states.
Other books by Nyhan include women’s fiction such as “The Other Family” and “All the Good Parts.” She co-authored “Empire Girls” and “Home Front Girls” with writer Suzanne Hayes, and Nyhan also wrote the young adult titles “The Witch Collector, Part I” and “The Witch Collector, Part II.”
Similar to TEDx, TritonTalk gives the college’s employees a chance to share their accomplishments and stories with the community, college spokeswoman Maryann Pisano told Pioneer Press.
Pisano said other upcoming TritonTalk installments tentatively scheduled for the spring include one on March 27 with Brent Damsz, testing director, and Jason Lemberg, director of early alert and intervention that is planned to be held in the Testing Center.
Another one is scheduled for April 24 featuring Frances Figg, faculty chair of the college’s architecture department, then May 15 with Nina Rearden, director of faculty and instruction in the Adult Education department, and William Nedrow, a full-time faculty member in the English department.
“The library will highlight people in our Triton community who are doing interesting things and have insight to share on navigating life in the modern world,” officials said.
