Tesla has officially kick-started its India innings with the announcement of prices for its first offering: the much-anticipated Model Y SUV. Deliveries for the EV are set to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with availability restricted initially to Delhi, Gurugram, and Mumbai.

Tesla Model Y Price In India

On-road pricing for the Model Y starts at Rs 61.07 lakh for the standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant, while the Long Range RWD version comes in at Rs 69.15 lakh.

Bookings are now open for Rs 22,000, although the reservation amount is non-refundable.

The India-bound Model Y comes with an updated design and several interior enhancements. Among the key upgrades is a new touchscreen interface for rear-seat passengers and electrically adjustable rear seats, a first for Tesla’s SUV. Tesla claims the refreshed Model Y has been tailored to appeal to the premium SUV segment in India.

This model is equipped with two battery options: the standard variant houses a 60 kWh LFP battery and delivers a claimed range of around 500 km, while the Long Range version features a 75 kWh NMC battery with a longer range of up to 622 km. The Model Y RWD variant accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, making it a potent performer within its segment.

Tesla Model Y Colour Options & Add-Ons

Tesla is offering six colour choices for Indian customers, including:

  • Stealth Grey (standard)
  • Pearl White Multi-Coat (Rs 95,000 extra)
  • Diamond Black (Rs 95,000 extra)
  • Glacier Blue (Rs 1,25,000 extra)
  • Quicksilver (Rs 1,85,000 extra)
  • Ultra Red (Rs 1,85,000 extra)

These premium paint options add to the model’s aspirational appeal in the Indian market, further aligning with the tastes of luxury car buyers.

Taking On Luxury Rivals in the EV Arena

As Tesla’s first car for India, the Model Y will directly rival established luxury EV players such as the BMW X1 Long Wheelbase, Volvo C40, BYD Sealion 7, and Mercedes-Benz EQA. Despite being fully imported, which pushes its price upwards, Tesla is banking on the global success of the Model Y to carve out its niche here. It’s worth noting that the Model Y has been one of the best-selling vehicles globally and continues to be a volume driver for the brand.

While the company remains guarded about the exact launch sequence of its full India line-up, the Model Y and Model 3 are expected to be showcased at Tesla’s upcoming dealership in Mumbai. The brand is also planning a Delhi outlet in the near future.

With the growing demand for electric SUVs and a government push towards clean mobility, Tesla’s entry into India, though delayed, could well be timed to take advantage of a maturing EV ecosystem.
