31 Mn Indian Users May Upgrade To 5G Phones By Dec

In what may be a vast opportunity for further 5G adoption in the country, 31 million users could upgrade to 5G phones in 2023, said a report by networking and telecommunications giant Ericsson on Tuesday. Ericsson’s report titled “5G value: Turning performance into loyalty” was carried out by Ericsson ConsumerLab and it explores what drives 5G network satisfaction and user retention. On average, 5G users spend two hours more per week, using services like streaming HD video, video calling services, mobile gaming and augmented reality (AR) when compared to their counterparts in other early adopters of 5G such as the US, the UK, South Korea, China and others.

Instagram, Facebook Ad-Free In The EU At A Fee

Social networking giant Meta may charge a fee of $14 to European users, for accessing ad-free versions of Instagram and Facebook, in the wake of the European Union’s (EU) comprehensive digital regulation strategy, the media has reported. This is Meta’s bid to navigate strict privacy rules in the region, which will require Meta to get users’ consent in order to show them targeted ads, says a report by CNBC.

Disney+ Hotstar’s New Vertical Video Streaming For Cricket World Cup 2023

OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar has updated its Android and iOS app, in a bid to become the first platform to offer “MaxView” vertical video streaming, ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. It has been developed in partnership with the International Cricket Council (ICC), and users will be able to watch the matches in vertical mode for a better one-handed viewing experience.

SPPL Eyes Rs 500 Crore Biz This Festive Season

Homegrown consumer electronics player and contract manufacturer Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL) aims to do an overall business worth Rs 500 crore this festive season, says a report by IANS. SPPL makes its products out of a factory in Noida and brands such as Thomson, Kodak and Blaupunkt TVs are manufactured by the company. SPPL is the first local manufacturing company in the country to introduce QLED TVs with Google TV. 

HMD Global Starts Making 5G Devices In Europe

HMD Global, the licensed maker and distributor of Nokia-branded smartphones, has become the first major smartphone OEM to manufacture devices in Europe, with its first 5G model made in Hungary, news agency Reuters has reported. According to HMD, the first European model was designed for enterprise customers, some of whom had requested additional security in conjunction with their IT security partners.

Oppo Find N3 Flip With Alert Slider Launching In India

Handset maker Oppo is set to refresh its foldable lineup the the Oppo Find N3 Flip in India. This comes soon after Tecno Phantom V Flip 5G phone started retailing in the country on first sale. Now, Oppo and OnePlus, both brands under the umbrella of BBK Electronics are preparing to launch their foldable devices. Oppo has officially teased the launch of its foldable device called Find N3 Flip. The device is said to feature an alert slider, which we have seen on OnePlus phones. The alert slider will let one toggle between three modes — Silent, Vibrate and Ring and it will be a handy feature to use without having to open the phone.

X Slapped With Trademark Lawsuit By X Social Media

Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s X, formerly Twitter, has been hit by a new trademark lawsuit from a marketing agency. The legal marketing agency has sued X Corp and said that the micro-blogging platform’s new name infringes its trademark by incorporating the letter “X”. The lawsuit also claimed that X Corp, which owner Musk began rebranding to X from Twitter in July, was likely to cause consumer confusion. The lawsuit has been filed by Windermere, Florida-based X Social Media.

Google May Release Android 14 On October 4

Google is likely to release Android 14 on October 4, the same day when it officially unveiled its Pixel 8 lineup of devices. Android 14 was supposed to launch last month, but that did not happen and several rumours and leaks pointed at an October 4 unveil, coinciding with the launch of Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8. According to Canadian mobile network carrier Telus, it will be released on October 4, as spotted by Droid Life.
