A woman and her daughter were killed and the husband was seriously injured when their car met with an accident in Jharkhand. According to a PTI report, the accident occurred on Saturday, near the Ranishwar area while they were returning from Jharkhand’s Dumka to Bolpur in West Bengal.

A senior police said that the cause of the accident is unclear, however, they know that the husband was the one driving. He works as a professor of Visva Bharati’s Silpa Sadana. Following the accident, local people rescued the three and rushed them to a hospital.

The police officer said that they were shifted to the Suri Sadar Hospital where Puspalata Jena, 50, and the daughter Sukriti Jena, 25, were declared ‘brought dead’, as per the report.

Meanwhile, Santanu Jena was undergoing treatment at the Suri hospital, where he was said to be in critical condition. He has sustained serious injury and one of his legs may be amputated, reported PTI.

An investigation into the accident has been initiated, the police officer said.

Chhattisgarh Accident

This comes a day after four members of a family were killed after their motorcycle was hit by a truck in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district.

Janjgir-Champa Additional Superintendent of Police Rajendra Kumar Jaiswal identified the four deceased as Ramkumar Kashyap, 47, his wife Satrupa, 42, son Chandra Prakash, 19, and three-year-old granddaughter. They were all residents of Konargarh under Mulmula police station limits, a police officer said.

“The incident took place near Arasmeta when they were heading to Parsada for a birthday celebration. A truck hit their motorcycle and the man, his teen son and the child died on the spot. The woman died during treatment in Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Science (CIMS) in Bilaspur,” he said.

The driver, who fled from the scene, has been arrested. People in the vicinity have blocked the road to protest against the incident and efforts were on to pacify them, the officer added.
