Two women were killed and an infant sustained serious injuries Friday after a driver struck all three near Winnetka, authorities said.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office reported that at about 6 p.m. Friday, a vehicle was going south on Church Road when it slammed into the two pedestrians and the infant, who was in a stroller, as they were at an intersection with Meadow Road, near the Indian Hill Country Club in unincorporated Winnetka.

One of the pedestrians was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was pronounced dead later at a local hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The names of the two women killed were not immediately available.

The infant was listed in critical condition at a local hospital, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were also taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the Sheriff’s Office added.

Endeavor Health Evanston Hospital was providing care to victims of a car crash  in the Winnetka area, according to a hospital spokesman. He said he could not provide any additional information due to patient privacy.

The Sheriff’s Office added there was no indication of foul play at this point. However, an investigation is under way.

Anyone with information may call the Sheriff’s Police at  708-865-4700.

The incident occurred in a small section of unincorporated land that was never annexed into greater Winnetka, according to New Trier Township Supervisor Gail Eisenberg.
