Veteran Indian pacer Varun Aaron has announced his international retirement on Friday, thereby, bringing an end to a 13-year career that witnessed lots of troubles via injuries and inconsistent performances, as the right-armed pacer managed to don an Indian shirt merely 18 times across Tests and ODI’s.

The official announcement of the retirement has been made byb the pacer himself, via his official Instagram account. In the post, he thanked god, family, friends, and added that he will always cherish ‘fast bowling’.

Here’s what Varun Aaron said:

“For the past 20 years, I have lived, breathed, and thrived on the rush of bowling fast. Today, with immense gratitude, I officially announce my retirement from representative cricket.”

“This journey wouldn’t have been possible without God, my family, friends, teammates, coaches, support staff and fans. Over the years, I’ve had to push both my physical and mental limits to recover from numerous career-threatening injuries, having to comeback time and again, this was only possible thanks to the relentless dedication of the physios, trainers, and coaches at the National Cricket Academy.”

“I’d also like to thank the BCCI, JSCA, Red Bull, SG Cricket, and MRF Tyres for their invaluable support during critical junctures in my career.”

“As I bid farewell to a pursuit that has consumed me completely, I now look forward to savoring the smaller joys in life while staying deeply connected to the game that has given me everything. Fast Bowling has been my first love, and though I step off the field, it will always be a part of who I am.”

Varun Aaron’s ‘Not-So-Memorable’ International Career

Varun Aaron burst on to the scene with great promise, but failed to fulfill his potential, as constant injuries and inconsistent performances reduced his international career to merely 4 years, as ever since he made his debut in 2011, his last appearance came in 2014 (ODI) and 2015 (Test).

The 35-year-old has 18 wickets in Test Cricket, and 11 wickets in ODI’s, and has no five-wicket hauls to his name.
