WhatsApp has changed its minimum system requirements which has left some users unable to use the instant messaging platform. As per a report by CanalTech, around 35 phones from companies such as Samsung, Motorola, Huawei, Sony, LG, and Apple will no longer receive WhatsApp updates or security patches. This move is aimed at enhancing the app’s performance and security but it has also left some users with the urgent need to upgrade their phones if they wish to continue using WhatsApp.

The devices that have been affected by this change include some of the prominent names such as Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Motorola’s Moto G and X, and iPhone SE. Let us go over the phones that will not receive WhatsApp updates and security patches after this change.

  • Samsung: Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy Grand, Galaxy Express 2.
  • Motorola: Moto G, Moto X
  • Huawei: Ascend P6 S, Ascend G525, Huawei C199, Huawei GX1s, Huawei Y625

The bottom line for this classification is that phones running on Android 5.0 or later and iPhones running on iOS 12 and later will only be able to receive WhatsApp updates and security patches from now on. Smartphones prior to those versions of Android and iOS won’t be able to receive support from WhatsApp as mentioned above. They will miss out on crucial updates which will leave them vulnerable to security risks.

This update highlights the importance of keeping up with technological advancements. It might be inconvenient for some people to do so but if they wish to keep themselves safe then at some point they will need to start keeping up with the advancements.
