A Chicago woman accused of stabbing two people and stealing an SUV earlier this week in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood stabbed one man in his abdomen while he was holding his toddler son, according to an arrest report.

Vanessa Delgado, the 21-year-old Clearing woman charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and vehicular hijacking, was ordered detained Saturday during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building, according to court records.

She was arrested at 6:54 a.m. Thursday after witnesses identified her as the person who stabbed the 30-year-old man about 30 minutes earlier in the 5100 block of South Mulligan Avenue while he carried his son, the report said. The father was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

The father approached Delgado after hearing her crash a 2014 Nissan Rogue into an unoccupied parked vehicle. Delgado stole the vehicle about five minutes earlier from a 41-year-old woman who she repeatedly stabbed in the chest in the 5100 block of South Rutherford Avenue, the report said. The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.

Officers recovered a black knife at the scene on Mulligan Avenue, the report said. They also found chalk, keys, a knife sheath, a grey blanket, a backpack and two screwdrivers that they said were “burglary tools” in Delgado’s possession, the report said.

Authorities did not say what led to the incident. Delgado suffered minor injuries from the crash. After her arrest, she was taken to Holy Cross Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, according to the report.

Delgado is scheduled to be in court Tuesday. The Cook County state’s attorney’s office couldn’t be reached Saturday.
