The Delhi government is expected to approve the ‘Mahila Samriddhi Yojana’ in the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Saturday, 8 March. According to sources, the scheme aims to provide ₹2,500 in financial assistance to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households, with the first instalment set to be released following the approval.

Sources indicate that after the Cabinet meeting, the official announcement of the scheme may take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The government is formulating specific criteria to ensure that only genuinely needy women benefit from the scheme:

  • Women with an annual income of less than ₹2.5 lakh will be eligible.
  • Women employed in government jobs and those who pay income tax will be excluded.
  • Women already receiving any form of government pension will not be eligible.

Delhi Cabinet’s Nod To Ujjwala Yojana Proposal Also Likely Tomorrow

Apart from the ‘Mahila Samriddhi Yojana,’ the Delhi government is also considering distributing free LPG cylinders under the Ujjwala Yojana for poor families on Holi. This proposal is also likely to be approved in Saturday’s Cabinet meeting.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised financial assistance for poor and needy women in its election manifesto. The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana is seen as a major step in fulfilling this commitment.

The government believes that this scheme will provide financial stability to economically weaker women and help them become self-reliant.

The government has previously launched several schemes for women’s empowerment and financial support, including the Ujjwala Yojana, Janani Suraksha Yojana, and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana.

With the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, lakhs of needy women are expected to receive direct financial assistance. The scheme aims to make women economically self-sufficient and improve their standard of living. All eyes are now on Saturday’s Cabinet meeting, where a final decision on this crucial scheme is likely to be taken.
