Worship news: Black Tie White Collar gala and catechism retreat

Chesterton

Liberty Bible Church: 824 N. Calumet Ave. — There will be a “Newcomer Coffee” event at Liberty Bible Church to provide new members with information and a place to connect from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Sept. 7. The hour-long event will be an opportunity to ask questions and meet a pastor and connect with other new families. St. Patrick Catholic Church: 638 N. Calumet Rd. — The church will host a catechism retreat from 6-8:30 p.m. on October 23. The cost is $10. For more information and to register, visit dcgary.org/catechrist-retreat.

Marquette Park United Methodist Church: 215 N. Grand Blvd. — All are welcome to worship at 11:15 a.m. Sundays at Marquette Park United Methodist Church. There will be refreshments to follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Peace Emmanuel Baptist Church: 1201 Chase St. — Peace Emmanuel Church nurses ministry will host a Health and Wellness Fair from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 13. There will be screenings and information on mental health, sickle cell, cancer, fire prevention and more. The fair will also have a live DJ, fun activities, games, exercises and prizes. All are welcome to attend.

St. Timothy Unity Church: 1600 W. 25th Ave. — The church will have Gospel Extravaganza, presented by Urban League of Northwest Indiana, at 4 p.m. Sept. 14. Faith United Church of Christ: 3030 175th St. — Faith United Church of Christ holds its worship service at 10 a.m. on Sundays, followed by fellowship and coffee.

Saint Joseph Catholic Church: 5304 Hohman Ave. — Saint Joseph Catholic Church will have “Donut Sunday” on the final Sunday of every month after the 9 a.m. Mass. Free coffee and donuts are provided at the air-conditioned church hall.

Merrillville

Avalon Manor: 3550 E. Lincoln Highway — The Diocese of Gary Vocations will hold a Black Tie White Collar gala from 6-10:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 at Avalon Manor Banquet Center. The individual dinner cost is $100 per person, but priests and religious vocationists attend free. Jack Serletic of the Serra Club of Northwest Indiana will receive this year’s Guardian Angels award. Diocese of Gary Pastoral Center: 9292 Broadway: The Diocese will host The Creed Series, marking the 1,700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed, from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 24 through Nov. 12.
