Afternoon Briefing: State refiles charges against New Lenox gun shop owners

Good afternoon, Chicago.

After Will County prosecutors dropped several criminal charges against two New Lenox business owners in July, the state’s attorney’s office refiled the charges, and a new trial is scheduled for Nov. 17.

The state refiled the charges against Jeffrey Regnier, owner of Kee Firearms and Training in New Lenox, and Greta Keranen, with Kee Construction on Aug. 7, after Circuit Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak moved in late July to drop the charges, first filed in 2023.

At Broadview ICE facility, federal agents hurl tear gas and pepper spray at protesters blocking vans

‘A wonderful space for joy’: Former Greater Grand Crossing school reopened as arts incubator

The shuttered St. Laurence Catholic Elementary School at 1353 E. 72nd St. reopened its doors last Sunday as the Land School, an arts incubator for artists. Read more here.
