BJP MLA Adesh Chauhan has been sentenced to a one-year jail term by the CBI court on Monday in a police custody assault case, according to a report by the news agency IANS.
The Special CBI Magistrate also sentenced a one-year jail term to Chauhan’s niece on charges of fabricating false evidence. Additionally, two police personnel have also been sentenced for unlawfully detaining an individual, as per the Amar Ujala report.
In 2009, Adesh Chauhan’s niece had filed a dowry harassment complaint against her husband at the Ganganagar police station. However, the investigation revealed that the allegations were false.
Attempt To Defraud MLA
In a separate development, an attempt to defraud MLA Adesh Chauhan was made recently. The fraudster not only threatened the MLA but also demanded Rs 5 lakh. Following the MLA’s complaint, the police registered a case and began an investigation, News 18 reported.
According to information received from the police, the MLA’s public relations officer, Romish Kumar, filed the complaint stating that a call was received on the MLA’s phone from an unknown number.
The caller posed as Jay Shah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The fraudster claimed to have strong connections with Home Minister Jay Shah and several senior BJP leaders, and while threatening the MLA, demanded Rs 5 lakh.
