TMC To Pay Tributes To Gandhi At Raj Ghat Today, Hold Discussions On Delhi Protest Strategy

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress workers will hold a meeting on Monday to chalk out a strategy a day ahead of their protest in Delhi. Ahead of the meeting, the leaders will visit Raj Ghat and pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

TMC MP Sudeep Bandopadhyay said that all the leaders will gather at Raj Ghat and pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi on Monday and after that, a meeting regarding the protest will be held at his house. 

Speaking to the media, TMC MP Sudeep Bandopadhyay said, “Today it was decided in the meeting that tomorrow at 1:30 pm we will gather at Raj Ghat and pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. After this, a meeting will be held at my house and discuss & chalk out a strategy for October 3…Everyone knows the issue, job workers haven’t been paid…Bengal is being economically blockaded by the central government..”

The TMC plans to hold a sit-in by its MPs and state ministers at Rajghat on October 2, and a rally of MGNREGA job card holders the next day.

Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee also asserted on Sunday that agitation demanding the ‘rightful dues’ of the people of West Bengal will continue till funds are released by the central government.

Speaking to the media after landing in the national capital, the TMC general secretary said, “The MPs and the ministers are meeting here tonight. There will be discussions and deliberations and we will explore the way forward. Stop me if you can. I am not challenging any probe agency, whatever I had to say I have said. I am putting that challenge right across from the soil of Delhi.”

Banerjee reached Delhi to join a protest by the 100-day job card holders under MGNREGA to demand payment of the monetary dues for the work done.

“If anyone is found guilty of corruption in a 100-day work or housing scheme, let action be taken against them, but why is money to the beneficiaries stopped? The agitation will continue till the rightful dues of the people of Bengal are released by the Centre,” news agency PTI quoted Banerjee as saying.
