The London Fire Brigade responded to the incident at 2:52 PM local time, deploying 20 fire engines and approximately 125 firefighters to contain the flames, reported The Guardian. While the fire at the hotel was brought under control by Friday night, a neighbouring building continued to burn.

The Chiltern Firehouse, a high-end hotel known for its £760 (Rs 82920 approx)-per-night rooms, was set to host Netflix’s BAFTA Awards party on Sunday. The venue is a popular spot for celebrities, with past visitors including Taylor Swift, Tom Cruise, and Kate Moss.

Due to the damage, the hotel is expected to remain closed for some time, requiring significant repairs. An official from the London Fire Department said that the fire has been brought under control, but the hotel will remain closed until further notice and will need extensive repairs.

According to a statement from the London Fire Brigade, the fire originated in ducting that extends from the ground floor to the roof, with a plant room at the roof level also catching fire.

Authorities established a safety cordon around the hotel, which is situated in the upscale Marylebone district of central London. Owner Andre Balazs, who also owns Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont, confirmed that no injuries were reported and expressed gratitude to the firefighters.

“One of the responders had actually been stationed in this building when it served as a fire station 30 years ago,” Balazs noted. “I am truly grateful to all of them, as I am sure this is not how they envisioned spending their Valentine’s Day evening.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the Chiltern Firehouse will remain closed until further notice. However, The Guardian quoted a witness as saying that the fire “started in the kitchen” and then “went upstairs”.
