U.S. stocks rose to start the fourth quarter Monday, with investors bracing for more volatility in the final three months of the year.
The S&P 500 added 1.1% shortly after the opening bell. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 331 points, or 1.1%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.7%. Stocks fell Friday, closing out a losing week, month and quarter.
